Skin in the game - the art exhibition about femininity, sexuality and desires

Arta, in partnership with Gallery HZ, is thrilled to present the group exhibition - ‘skin in the game’ Featuring mixed media paintings by Ewa Budka, Javier Martin & Ewelina Skowrońska, photography works by Chong-Il Woo. Profoundly inspired by human nature - sexuality, emotions and desires the “skin in the game” exhibition metaphorically and literally presents the complexity of womanhood in today's ambiguous world. The artists adopted different mediums and styles to inquire into the role of women in a cross-cultural contemporary society. Through their artistic creations, viewers may have opportunities to explore the ideas of female outer and inner beauty, how women are shown in today's world of social media and advertising, as well in daily life, and finally what women need to give to be considered “beautiful”. We are also honored to have the Consulate General of Poland in Hong Kong as an official patron of this exhibition which additionally co-organizes events and talks about Polish women and their achievement in arts, science, and sport. Exhibition details: Address: Gallery HZ, 222 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Opening hours: Monday to Saturday 11 am – 7 pm, close on Sunday and Public Holidays Opening night: 11 November, 11am - 9pm Closing date: 16 December For any inquiries, please contact Natalia Mota at +852 61264056 or email info@artaapp.com Arta Website: https://www.artaapp.com Arta Podcast: https://www.artaapp.com/podcast Arta Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVW8... What is lithography? Ewa Budka, her lithography prints, and how Mokulito technique became Budkalito

Budka finalized her research on a rarely practiced Japanese printmaking technique called Mokulito. She created her own printmaking technique naming it, Budkalito. With the exciting results of Budkalito, she was invited to give lectures and workshops around the world. The “skin in the game” exhibition from 11 November to 16 December in Hong Kong presents Ewa Budka’s lithography prints and paintings. Ewa Budka, New York-based, born and raised in Poland captures her own stories - emotions which, like a tattoo on her skin are visible on her abstract paintings. Budka explores the complexity of having an international career as an artist, art director, model, and recently also a mom, and all which goes with it, the bad and good times - heartbreaks, frustration, happiness, and love. The artist stated “Life is all about changes. 2020 had changed my life, it changed me in many ways. I realized I have many different needs, desires. What I have had learned when I became a Mother is that there are many different Women inside of me. My body has spoken to me in so many different ways that I had to stop, and carefully check where are coming from all of the whispers. I saw a space-a potential to check and I found in there many different Ewa’s. A Mother, a Lover, an Independent strong fighter but also Ewa who wants to be taken care of. It took time to hear them all out, to direct who’s speaking when. They all can represent different personality archetypes of Greece Goddesses like Hera, Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis. All-powerful but so different. Finally, my Women are all being respectful, friendly, gently living, to each other. It almost feels that they all had been at fight in the past decade, and now finally I see them all. Clearly, without a doubt, I wouldn’t be able to listen to any of them if not 2020.” Arta Website: https://www.artaapp.com Arta Podcast: https://www.artaapp.com/podcast Arta Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVW8... #stopgap2020

Join us on a journey to understand how lockdown enabled a new type of creativity! KLIP ART & ARTA are excited to present their first group exhibition #STOPGAP2020 featuring 11 established and emerging artists from Central Europe and Hong Kong. The exhibition is part of the well established and annual deTOUR Festival organized by PMQ Hong Kong and sponsored by Create Hong Kong of the Government of the HKSAR between 27th November and 6th December. #STOPGAP2020 is asking the question of how artists from different parts of the world have used their time in lockdown or isolation, to create new artistic works, in response to their individual pandemic experience and the “new normal” of 2020. The exhibition presents pieces that relate to issues of the modern world, having a global and human dimension. The exhibition presents various creative personalities, mediums and forms such as oil and acrylic paintings, collages made of sustainable materials, series of photographs, and last but not least detailed drawings with ink and pencil. #STOPGAP2020 is a celebration of creativity that resulted from a completely new reality in which we all found ourselves in, regardless of the place. A specially curated program of talks, workshops and events with artists present will be held for the duration of the exhibition, to provide meaningful encounters and access points aimed at different audiences. The Artist in Lockdown: Sim Chan in His Studio

We are thrilled that Sim Chan is one of 11 artists taking part in the #stopgap2020 exhibition. This video showcases his process, inspiration, and technique he used for the newsiest artworks in 2020, during the lockdown. About the Artist: Sim Chan has demonstrated distinctive styles of contemporary paintings that document his perception of the surrounding world. Chan, born and raised in Hong Kong spends most of his time at his studio in the Fotan area, depicting the local cityscape and the urban architecture, Sim Chan’s work expresses his observation and tactile sense of his city. At the show, Chan presents his TwinklingCity Series which showcases his very innovative technique that integrates contemporary oil paintings with new technologies and science. After many months of research, studies, and tests on colors and lights, Sim has created artworks that react to LED lights behind the canvas and spontaneously reveal a hidden side of the painting whenever the ambient light is switched off. To showcase the unique artworks you are invited to a room designed especially for this occasion. The Artist in Lockdown: Zuzanna Lenartowicz-Malcher in her studio

Zuzanna Lenartowicz-Malcher is one of 11 artists taking part in the #stopgap2020 exhibition. And this video showcases how she lives and creates new artworks during the lockdown in Poland. About the artist: Zuzanna portrays nature and animals which drive her to explore new horizons, and as such, she said “We (people) have an endemic desire to be close to nature and a curiosity about the world that pushes us in search of the unknown. In search of authenticity.” Deeply rooted in many cultures and for centuries, we have been trying to explore the nature surrounding us and try to tame, subdue, and restrain it. Toads turning into princes, black cats bringing bad luck, white rabbits appearing from a hat, rats announcing plague, bats, vampires, and snakes symbolizing evil powers... In Zuzanna’s works, each animal’s name is hand-written in gothic letters used in the 11th century that the artist has been studying for many years.
